    It is a pleasure to present Ynte Schukken’s article on the efficacy of vaccination on Staphylococcus aureus and coadulase-negative staphyplococci intramamary infection. In this article, published on Journal of Diary Science last June 2014, he concludes that the utilization of vaccine in combination with other infection-control procedures will result in an important reduction in incidence and duration of intramammary staphylococcal infections.

    "Coliform Mastitis Control by Dr. Andrew Bradley". The potential role of vaccination is discussed in detail in this issue. Coliform mastitis is caused by a wide variety of different Gram -ve bacteria, most commonly Escherichia coli but also, amongst others, Klebsiella spp and Serratia spp. Infection usually only results in a mild case of clinical mastitis, though on occasions, particularly in early lactation and when cows are under metabolic stress more severe disease can occur.
