The costs associated with mastitis, both direct and indirect, are well-known. Sometimes, though, only direct costs are apparent -and the indirect costs associated with production losses, premature culling, etc.,- are ignored.

Toni Prenafeta (HIPRA R&D) explained the role of S. aureus biofilm in bovine mastitis during the 20th Anniversary Meeting of the Japanese Mastitis Council in Tokyo, which was held in Tokyo on October 9th. The major focus of this congress is mastitis thus Dr. Prenafeta’ s lecture was followed by more than one hundred professionals.

Thanks to HIPRA’s sponsorship, a diverse and very high level group of experienced veterinarians from all over Spain visited last November the 18th the Veterinary Faculty of University of Santiago, where the course took place.

The 3rd RELIM conference, in which HIPRA participated as a Platinium Sponsor for the third consecutive year, was held from 25 to 27 November in Puerto Varas, Chile.

Andrew Bradley was invited by HIPRA as a speaker to the French Congress of SNGTV (Société Nacionale des Grupements Techniques Vétérinaries), which was hold in Nantes on May the 20th to May the 22nd.

The subject of the meeting was milk quality and STARTVAC^® trials; both subjects presented by A. Bradley Also SimHerd project was presented as an economical calculation of the efficacy of using STARTVAC^®.

Thanks to HIPRA’ s sponsorship, a diverse and very high level of experienced veterinarians from Turkey visited last May the Quality Milk Management Services Ltd (QMMS) facilities in Wells, UK.

HIPRA recently brought their International Mastitis Course to South Africa and hosted a three-day event in Pretoria.

He concludes that the utilization of vaccine implies a return on investment of 2.6 to 1 based on increased milk yield alone.
