HIPRA at the Western Canadian Association of Bovine Practitioners conference
HIPRA was sponsor of the 25th annual WCABP conference, held in Calgary. For the third year, HIPRA sponsored a Technical Breakfast. On this occasion the invited speaker was Hans Caron, vet practitioner from The Netherlands, who talked about the economic importance of mastitis in dairy farms. About 80 vet practitioners from Western Canada attended the lecture.
Dr. Caron started his lecture by explaining how, in his practice, they manage to make the farmers aware of the real cost of mastitis and how to show the benefits of preventive strategies. He highlighted that calculated average costs may differ from real costs, so economic impact of mastitis has to be calculated individually for each farm. To do so, they work with the SimHerdTM software program. After that, he presented the expected economic benefits and return on investment (ROI) of vaccination with Topvac in 2 different farms.
This action strengthens HIPRA’s commitment with the dairy vets in Western Canada, providing technical support and advice.
